Summer Schedule 2008


NOTE: Due to the high fuel prices, we hope to carpool this summer as much as possible. If you ride with someone else, one of our members has suggested that a fair payment be made to the driver to help offset the cost of the trip


May 31, Saturday
Bike trip to Burlington via Port Kent ferry. This promises to be a great day and most likely will include food and ice cream. Sue Smith will be the leader. You may contact her by calling the Keltings at (518) 425-3314

June 13-14, Friday and Saturday
Hike at Twin Valleys to be held by Ken Adams. It is possible to stay overnight in your tent or an unheated cabin. The lodge has a kitchen with hot water, etc. Others could join us for the day hike at Twin Valleys on Saturday. Cost to stay overnight is $10.00 per person. June 21, Saturday
Bike or walk the area between St. Johns and Chambly, Quebec, with lunch at a local restaurant. There is an interesting fort nearby to tour for a small admission fee. For reservations and further info, please contact the Keltings at (518) 425-3314

June 25, Wednesday
Tour Fort Lennox in Quebec about 20 minutes north of Rouses Point. There is a boat ride to the island to get to the fort. The admission fee is about $8.00. Bring a lunch. For reservations and further info, please contact the Keltings at (518) 425-3314

July 9, Wednesday
Guided tour of the windmills! Meet at the schoolhouse at 9:00 a.m. Bring a lunch. Please call Bill and Jane Kelting for reservation at (518) 425-3314

July 16, Wednesday
Hike on Jenkins Mountain to be led by Julie Roulston. Jenkins is a small mountain with great views. The round trip is 8.2 miles, 5-6 hours, with gradual 780' elevation gain. July 19, Saturday
Annual summer picnic at 1 p.m. at the Methodist WSCS camp on Rt. 374 on the Chateaugay Lake Narrows. Please bring your own drinks, your own meat to grill, your own table settings and a dish to pass. July 23, Wednesday
Hike at Point au Roche State Park on Lake Champlain. This is one of our newest state parks with easy, mostly level trails for 3-4 miles. Children are welcome! Entrance fee required. July 26, Saturday

July 20, Wednesday
Silver Lake Mountain is a gem of a mountain even though it is less than 2 miles round trip with a vertical rise of about 900 feet. After lunch on the rocks, visit nearby Silver Lake Bog to see the many plants rarely accessible, adding another 2 miles round trip. Children are welcome! Bring a lunch. August 6, Wednesday
Hike Mt. Joe near Adirondack Lodge, and easy mountain with some steep areas. It has impressive views after only a little effort. The trail climbs 710 feet above Heart Lake. Round trip is 2.3 miles and takes approximately 2 hours. Children are welcome! Bring a lunch. August 13, Wednesday
Poke-o-Moonshine Mountain is a short hike with some very steep sections. Round trip is 2/4 miles. There is a fire tower at the top giving tremendous views of Lake Champlain and surrounding mountains. We will climb 1,280 feet in approximately 2.5 hour round trip. Children are welcome! Bring a lunch. August 14, Thursday

August 20-23, Wednesday thru Saturday
We are planning another great paddle and camping trip. This year we are going to Round Lake near Little Tupper in the Wm. C. Whitney and Round Lake Wilderness area. There are "box toilets" and no tables. Life jackets required! Probably day trip to the Wild Center. Reservations required ASAP.
