Winter Schedule 2009

Dec. 6th

Annual Christmas Party at the Kelting’s. Happy hour begins at 5pm. Hopefully dinner will be served at about 6PM. Please plan to bring a dish to share. Call Jane at 425-3314 if no answer just leave a message as to what you would like to bring.

Jan. 3rd

Ski or snowshoe at the VIC, Paul Smith’s. All types of trails are available plus a warm place to eat your lunch. Call Jane and Bill Kelting at 425–3314 for more information.

Jan. 10th

Ski at Dewey Mt. in Saranac Lake. Did this one last year and really enjoyed the day. Trails are groomed, novice to intermediate difficulty. There is a warming hut and a modest charge. Call Jim and Mary Humiston at 497-6685.

Jan. 14th

Our trips on snowmobile routes will be mid week due to the high number of sleds on weekends. We will ski on the railroad bed from Lyon Mountain to Standish, about 5 miles of fairly flat terrain. Call the Keltings for the time and place to meet, 425–3314.

Jan. 17th

Kent and Denise Goodrow have offered to lead a ski trip in their neck of the woods, St. Regis Falls. Please contact them at 856-9210 for more information.

Jan 24th

Cross country ski to Avalanche Lake, for experts only. A beautiful trip well worth the effort. Marty Sosville will be the leader. Call Marty at 483-4897.

Jan 31st

Cross country ski or snowshoe at Macomb State Park, Morrisonville – Peru. This area is written up in “Discover the Northern Adirondacks” The trails that we will be on will not be difficult. Please contact the Keltings, 425–3314 for details.

Feb. 4th

Up and Over the Mountain, Panther Mountain that is. We will be skiing on the old road that leads from the Ellenburg side to Merrill. There are several ways of doing this trip depending on people’s wishes and skill level. Contact the Keltings for more info, 425–3314.

Feb. 7th

Indian Falls Ski Trail in the Mount Marcy region. Peter Biesmeyer and Marty Sosville have worked on this trail and say that it is excellent but not for the novice skier. Please contact Marty at 483-4897 for additional information.

Feb 21st:

Cascade Ski Area, this has become a much enjoyed annual event led by Jim and Mary Humiston. There are a variety of well groomed trails to enjoy not to mention a fireside lunch. Please contact Jim and Mary at 497–6685.

Feb. 28th

Grass Pond off of the Hayes Brook trail, Rt 30, Paul Smith’s. About 2.8 miles round trip with easy grades. Contact the Keltings, 425–3314.

March 7th

Barnhart Island, St. Lawrence River. A new area for us to explore and Jim and Mary Humiston will lead the way. Please contact them at 497-6685.

March 22nd

Annual Sugaring Off Party at the Merrill School House. Call the Keltings at 425-3314 for details.

March 28th

Ski the Whiteface Toll Road. A great spring ski with a fairly gradual grade. Peter Biesmeyer will be the leader. Please contact him at 483-0641.

May 2nd

Bike trip along the Burlington waterfront if sunny, a tour of the ECO center if raining. The Port Kent ferry will not be in service yet so that route is not available. Sue Smith will be the leader, please call her at 802-425-2732 several days in advance.

June 12th – 14th

A weekend at Twin Valley with Ken and Barb Adams leading. This outing was thoroughly enjoyed by all who went last year and they requested a chance to return. There are cabins, a community kitchen and dining hall. The cost is $10 for the weekend. You’ll need to reserve a spot so please call Ken and Barb at 563-6920 if you wish to attend.

June 18th

Save this date for our annual dinner. Our fearless leader, Sue, will be paddling the Buffalo River in May so we have moved the date forward. Cards will be mailed out with time, place and program info by mid May.


Please contact our leaders several days in advance if you plan on going on an outing. If a leader does not hear from anyone until the night before he/she may have already made other plans. If riding with someone else please be sure to offer some money for gas.
